Updates Review

Major Updates Coming this Year
The major updates you can expect from us this year include:

  • June for new legislation effective July 1, 2009,
  • September for new legislation effective October 1, 2009, and
  • December for new legislation effective January 1, 2009.

We anticipate that you will receive these updates from us on CDs.

Future WebUpdates
WebUpdates enable us to provide you with changed forms almost as quickly as case law or agency changes outdate them. Our WebUpdate to you later this month includes:

  • FLSSI Real Estate1 - The HUD-1 and HUD-1A have been replaced and we will send the new versions in this WebUpdate. This includes all three versions of the HUD-1 which we offer: Standard, Borrower Information Only, and Seller Information Only. IMPORTANT NOTE: The changes are significant in that the HUD-1 is completely redesigned and some fields on page 2 of the HUD-1 have been deleted. If you re-assemble an existing HUD-1 after installing this WebUpdate, be sure to review the differences between the previous version and the new version.

Past WebUpdates
Here is a review of the final January WebUpdate we provided you:

Family Law Parenting Plans Update - We removed the parenting plans in ProDoc for the Circuit Courts that have been superseded. And, we are closely monitoring developments at the state and local level. The Florida Supreme Court is considering changes for over forty forms resulting from the October 1, 2008 statutory change (Senate Bill 2532), including a new Parenting Plan. We will also ship any new local Parenting Plans later this year.

Remember that ProDoc form 11-300 already is a Parenting Plan that contains the latest terminology and statutory requirements. It works as a stand-alone document or in conjunction with judgments for dissolution, paternity and supplemental proceedings.

Customer Questions from the Last WebNotes
The following questions were from ProDoc customers like you in response to the last month's ProDoc WebNotes.

Q: "I subscribe to ProDoc with SOS and have installed ProDoc on my laptop for use out of the office. Are there certain files I can copy to my laptop so that I can access all of the SOS information (contact info, practice manager notes, etc.) on my laptop without being on my office network"?
A: There are files you can copy but that is probably not the best method to accomplish this task. We do not have a synchronize feature in ProDoc. But here is a suggestion for you:

There is a way to move current data from a computer or network server to another. Open ProDoc and go to Tools-Database Transfer-Transfer Contact Data Out. The system will guide you through selecting the client or clients to transfer out. The original data will stay in the host computer. Save it to something like a flash drive.

Then insert the flash drive into the laptop, start ProDoc, and select Tools-Database Transfer-Transfer Contact Data In. The system will guide you through the process. Then conduct your work on the laptop. When you are finished, repeat the above processes in reverse to transfer data from your laptop to your office computer or server.

Any documents that you generated are not transferred by this process. It is probably easier to simply recreate them in the Document Manager after you complete the final Transfer Contact Data In on the office computer.

Q: "What is my registration code? I have already keyed in the installation code [Key Code]"?
A: The Key Code tells the ProDoc installer which volumes and programs you are entitled to install and use. The Registration Code(s) control the number of users for your ProDoc based on your subscription. The first time you installed ProDoc and registered it, ProDoc was activated for a period of time... and you can see that expiration date for a brief time in the registration window each time you start up ProDoc. Installing a CD update extends that registration time period. So, if you forget to install an update or two, ProDoc will eventually time out on you and be unusable until you re-register it using the registration codes.

Q: "App for iPhone. I would love to have a portable billing app for iPhone. Is this something ProDoc will consider developing"?
A: The more feedback we receive like yours the more likely it is that this feature will be added in the future. However, it will probably not debut for at least two to three years. We are in the process of planning the next rewrite of ProDoc and SOS. As a consequence, we're not adding any significant new features to ProDoc's present version. The new rewrite will be huge.

Q: "Is there any plan to make ProDoc a web-based subscription, that way the user's operating system is irrelevant"?
A: This goes back to our rewrite plans. One of the options we are studying is to write ProDoc in a language that is web-compatible. We've actually had customers participate in research for the new look, feel, and features of the next version of ProDoc. And, for you Mac users, there is a strong possibility that the next version of ProDoc will be both PC- and Mac-compatible.

Q: "We've been told we should upgrade to Word 2007, but really don't want to do that because we've heard of many problems with it.   Are there other things with Word 2007 and ProDoc we should be aware of?  That might help make the decision.  I don't want to have to change every document, so that's one big negative."
A: ProDoc works very well with Word 2007 and there are only a few not-commonly-used-features that do not work with Word 2007. As long as you are not planning to modify the master form templates, create custom headers and footers, etc., you should not have a problem with Word 2007. However, you should be aware that the documents Word 2007 generates come with a .docx extension. Word users with versions earlier than 2007 can open them by downloading a special converter from the Microsoft web site. And, if you use Word 2007 with ProDoc you'll want to change your default document extension from .docx to .doc to avoid error messages.

ProDoc Customer Support: Saving Time by Using Clients and Cases
The greatest time saving feature of ProDoc is that it saves and reuses all client and case information over and over again throughout the life of each case. Yes, using ProDoc you enter client and case data once for the life of each case. This saves you time and reduces the incidence of data entry error. But, ProDoc can only store the data for you when you take the time to set up a client and case at the opening of each of your cases. If you don't use Clients and Cases now, be sure to invest a few minutes of your time to learn how to use this fantastic ProDoc feature to save yourself hours of time each week.
